Today, the great horn of Africa climate change outlook forum (CHACOF62) has been concluded in Mombasa Kenya which had begun on 23rd till 25th of August.

Directors and specialists from the Ministries of Water, Health, Planning, Agriculture, Livestock, and Disaster Management Agency, as well as other representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia,had been participating the three days forecasting conference in the site of CHACOF62 Mombasa Kenya.

The forum has managed to bring together climate scientists, researchers, users from key socio-economic sectors, governmental and non-governmental organizations, development partners, decision-makers, and civil society stakeholders among others from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, and supporting countries in the Horn of Africa who were also taking part in the summit.

The theme of the conference was"Managing Climate Risks for Resilience"

The main objectives of the forum was to be able to:

• Review the impact of June - August 2022 season

• Present the regional forecast for the October - December 2022 season

• Present the expected impact of the forecast and advisories for key sectors in each country

• Provide a marketplace for decision makers, climate scientists, researchers, and users of climate information

Working groups to co-produce climate services and for advisories to take place in the following sectors:

• Agriculture and food security

• Disaster risk management

• Water and energy

• Livestock and rangelands

• Health

• Environment and forests

• Conflict early warning

• Climate change

• Media and communications

Personally, it was a special honor for me to be part of this forum every year for the last five years, and the importance for the Somalia media and communication it has for this forum to work on the climate change and the crucial role they can play in giving awareness and finding a solution in the on going fight against climate change

Flood Risk Rises as Water Levels Increase in the Shabelle and Juba Rivers.

  Government agencies responsible for weather forecasting, river monitoring and disaster management in Somalia have reported rising water levels in the Shabelle and Juba rivers, increasing the risk of flooding in areas along both rivers. According to updates from Somali government agencies, FAO SWALIM and the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), the Shabelle River faces a moderate and increasing flood risk, particularly in Beledweyne, Deefow, Bulo Burti and Jowhar in Hirshabelle State. In Beledweyne, the administrative capital of Hiiraan Region, the river level has reached 6.56 metres, exceeding the moderate flood-risk threshold of 6.50 metres. Water levels have continued to rise daily over the past week. In Deefow, the river level stands at 6.90 metres, while in Bulo Burti it has reached 5.36 metres, remaining below the moderate flood-risk threshold. By the end of 2021, I had acquired a number of life lessons that had a significant impact on me, which I had inherited from a range of events. Personally, I set some good goals at the start of the year, but the challenges that they bring cannot be overstated. At first, it was despair and failures, which I had already proved. They've all steered me in the right direction. In 2021, It was a year of employment, self-study, travel, and personal growth. The most important thing I accomplished that year was create relationships with culture, tourism, and intellectual development, as well as work hard, reading and writing a lot.
