Today, the great horn of Africa climate change outlook forum (CHACOF62) has been concluded in Mombasa Kenya which had begun on 23rd till 25th of August.
Directors and specialists from the Ministries of Water, Health, Planning, Agriculture, Livestock, and Disaster Management Agency, as well as other representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia,had been participating the three days forecasting conference in the site of CHACOF62 Mombasa Kenya.
The forum has managed to bring together climate scientists, researchers, users from key socio-economic sectors, governmental and non-governmental organizations, development partners, decision-makers, and civil society stakeholders among others from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, and supporting countries in the Horn of Africa who were also taking part in the summit.
The theme of the conference was"Managing Climate Risks for Resilience"
The main objectives of the forum was to be able to:
• Review the impact of June - August 2022 season
• Present the regional forecast for the October - December 2022 season
• Present the expected impact of the forecast and advisories for key sectors in each country
• Provide a marketplace for decision makers, climate scientists, researchers, and users of climate information
Working groups to co-produce climate services and for advisories to take place in the following sectors:
• Agriculture and food security
• Disaster risk management
• Water and energy
• Livestock and rangelands
• Health
• Environment and forests
• Conflict early warning
• Climate change
• Media and communications
Personally, it was a special honor for me to be part of this forum every year for the last five years, and the importance for the Somalia media and communication it has for this forum to work on the climate change and the crucial role they can play in giving awareness and finding a solution in the on going fight against climate change
