Ministry of Planning holds workshop on the issues of displacement
The Durable Solution’s Office of the Ministry of Planning,
Investment and Economic Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, held
a workshop on promoting and finding solutions to the problems of displacement
in Mogadishu.
The topics discussed at the workshop include; The importance
of this project’s impact and its role in solving the problems of displacement
in the country. This two-day forum will be attended by the leaders of the
Federal Government at both levels, friends who support this project such as the
United Nations and the Governments of Netherland, Switzerland and Norway.
Also, during the meeting, the implementation process of the
impact of the project will be analyzed in order to achieve its planned
parameters which are the basis for finding a lasting solution to the
displacement problems that have plagued our country. This project is aligned
with the National Strategy for sustainable solutions and the 9-step of the
National Development Plan.
There are an estimated 2.9 million IDPs in Somalia due to
decades of conflict and extreme weather events such as drought and floods - one
of the highest figures of IDPs globally. Of these, 2.2 million require urgent
humanitarian assistance.
